We've all heard of Delft, but if you haven't here is a mini history lesson for all of you! Delft, is a city located in South Holland, the Netherlands , Delft Blue pottery or earthenware is a tin glazed pottery famously known in that region. It is decorated with cobalt oxide which gives it , its blue color. Delft Blue pottery has been around since the 1600's, yet even today it is commonly found in homes today all over the world.
Now you must be wondering what is the connection between Curacao, Delft Blue and my artwork. First let me give you a little bit of background on Curacao first, its a small island in the Caribbean (commonly reffered to as the Lesser Antilles), but still part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Curacao has a beautiful mix of Dutch heritage with the bright and vibrant colors of Curacao.
The good part, how all of this all got gelled together and we got "A touch of Delft" series. I started out looking at a lot of Delft pottery online, mind you its a bit overwhelming when your so used to painting with many colours to be only using two- white and cobalt blue. If its not blended together you won't get any pretty designs, but rather blobs of paint and no one wants that. I worked cautiously blending each colour to get different shades of blue, the more I did , I really began to enjoy myself and let go a little trying out the same style on different pieces.
In "A touch of Delft" series, you can find a little bit of everything, from jewelry /trinket boxes, hand painted Christmas Ornaments, paintings, and Skadey cats a little bit of everything for everyone.
Delft blue Skadeys, along with other of my Delft blue items, can sometimes not be available when you come to the store- as I hand paint each one individually, it takes a bit of time, but to avoid disappointment contact me before your arrival so I can make sure I have one for your, or it can even be custom made to your liking!
