Kome-Unauthorized Family Meals Blog

Updated: May 25, 2021

Hello readers! Missed me much? I would certainly hope so! I believe I owe all of you an explanation for my absence. Mid March as our COVID cases began to rise it just didn't feel right publishing blogs. It was a stressful time for the entire island when our Prime Minister announced the lockdown. We were finally getting the feeling that things were getting better financially, so as a small business owner, to be once again be put back where we were a year ago when the pandemic and lockdown began in Curacao, was a major disappointment. I understand why it was done, the rising cases, the hospitalizations and the deaths were increasing drastically by the day, in plain English, it was getting scary. Now as our restrictions have been lifted for the most part, I find myself itching to write and get back to somewhat of a normal routine, with that being said, I'm going to tell you about one of my favorite restaurants Kome.

Kome is a stunning family owned restaurant located the heart of Petermaai, a restaurant that has become my go-to spot for lunches over the past few years. When I started blogging they were on the top of my list, I knew exactly what I wanted to write, and the places, is so beautiful, retro, with a modern flair, the pictures would just be breathtaking. With the restrictions/lockdowns, I just couldn't coordinate with them, but it's on my list! I was scheduled to have lunch there which was the first day of the lockdown; boy was I disappointed when that didn't happen. I absolutely love their fish tacos and was craving them for the longest time! But they did have their family meals, which is basically a full meal with an appetizer, main course and a dessert, and it feeds three to four adults. You can have Kome's amazing food in the comfort of your home, and you can dine in pajamas (if you like). I patiently waited for my favorite fish tacos to come up, in the family meal, I kid you not I actually messaged them to ask them to please include them it in the family meals. My persistence paid off and I was thrilled and ordered. Today I'm going to share with you about this amazing family meal. Bear in mind, no one from Kome is aware I'm writing this blog, it is completely unauthorized, and I paid for my meal, it wasn't sponsored in any way.

Kome in pajamas! Does life get better than that? Now let's get to the important part, the food, the family meal I ordered, Baja Fish Tacos had come with a side of refried beans, Mexican yellow rice, nacho's, salsa fresca and mexicali brownies with a chocolate sauce. Kome has the most generous portions I have seen on the island, I can assure you no one will go hungry! The fish tacos were a lot of fun to assemble, they thought of everything including the lime for the fish! The refried beans came to me as a surprise, I was expecting black beans or kidney beans, yet they served black eyed beans. At first I was a bit skeptical, even though they did smell really good with an intense smoky flavor. But once I tried them I was just blown away, they were that good. The entire meal was fantastic I really have nothing negative to say about it, what stood out for me personally were the fish tacos so perfect you felt you were having them at Kome itself, and refried beans, which I might not have ordered, had I bean at the restaurant, but it made an incredible side.

On a personal note, as restrictions have begun to lift, consider visiting Kome, it's a beautiful restaurant with fantastic food. The pandemic has been hard on all small businesses, but especially for restaurants which have had to battle the constant changes of rules and regulations and that's understating it. But if you rather stay in try their family meals, they do not disappoint- and leftovers? There is always breakfast.

I hope you guys enjoyed this unauthorized blog! Let me know if you would like more blogs like these, and if anyone would like to collaborate with me, just send me an email melissa.bharwani@gmail.com
